Rumor: Apple Will Release New MacBook Air Models Tomorrow
APRIL 28, 2014
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will launch new versions of its 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models tomorrow, according to multiple sources cited by 9to5Mac. According to these sources, shipments of the new MacBook Air models have already arrived at various retail store locations and Apple Store employees are currently rearranging in-store displays for tomorrow’s product unveiling.
Although Apple has long been rumored to be working on a revolutionary new type of MacBook Air that will feature major hardware changes, it appears that the new MacBook Air models only include an upgraded Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) Haswell processor. According to a technical specification sheet for the new entry-level 13-inch MacBook obtained by9to5Mac, the new model will feature a faster 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz. However, this is a relatively minor increase in processing power, since Apple’s current entry-level model already features a 1.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz.
Other than the processor upgrade, it appears that the new MacBook Air model will retain the same overall design and other technical specifications. Like the current model, the new 13-inch MacBook Air also features a 1440 by 900 pixel resolution display and a standard 128GB of flash storage. The new model also offers the same 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Intel HD Graphics 5000 card. The size and weight of the new laptop also remained the same.
Although this is not the “ultra-slim” 12-inch MacBook Air refresh described by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a research note earlier this month, it should be noted that Kuo predicted that the “ultra-slim” MacBook Air would not be released until the fourth-quarter of this year, reports Apple Insider.
